Our normal wedding season is from May to September ( due to the practicality of heating rooms with such high ceilings ) and we are a SATURDAY ONLY venue !
There are many different ways to organize a Wedding at Appuldurcombe depending on budget , whether you want a ceremony as well ( no extra venue hire charge ) and how much you want to get involved . It is possible to do everything yourselves ( except electrics which still need to be done professionally by people like NDL Electrical or Stage Gear ) . We have had many weddings in the past that have done their own catering , bar , furniture , decoration etc and also many that have used Events Co to do everything , hire equipment/furniture etc ,bar,catering , setting up and clearing up afterwards . If you want to do some setting up yourselves and then shop around different suppliers you can do this from our online lists , or get Wedding Planners like Wed And Prosper or the Eventsco to run things for you . No two of our weddings are ever the same so why not come over for a show around , to talk through what you have in mind and see if we can do it here ?

Wedding Ceremonies, receptions and parties can be held in the House or in a marquee on the front lawn .Receptions in the Great Hall of Appuldurcombe House can cope with up to 120 on round tables or up to 120 on long tables . By using a marquee this can be extended up to 200 . Please note from 2026 onwards we have a lower price for weddings and receptions of 70 or less .
Following the change in the regulations covering wedding ceremonies a few years ago , it is now possible to get married outside ( as long as there is a suitable inside contingency for wet weather !! ) See the pictures below of some of the first outside ceremonies in the site of the original library area to the side of the ruins and on the Rear Lawn . Please note outside ceremonies can be held in any of our 5 outside ares on site or 2 inside areas . For Inside and especially outside ceremonies a wedding coordinator is useful , for a professional service either Eventsco or Wed And Prosper .
Confetti is allowed but only the dried flower petal type please , not the paper type as it is impossible to clear up ! Best way to control this is to put " confetti will be supplied " in your invitations .
If you would rather have your ceremony inside , we have two rooms licensed for your wedding ceremony ; the Drawing Room (10.3 m by 5.75 m) which can seat around 80 comfortably , 100 as a maximum or the Great Hall (16.7 m by 6.9 m) which is licensed for up to 200 . For outside you are still restricted to no more than 200 as an inside contingency is still needed .
Please also note under Registry Office rules a bar cannot be visible in the main location for the Ceremony and also the Inside Contingency Room , even if it is not expected to be used . The whole site is licensed for music , dancing and for the sale of Alcohol until 12pm midnight . Please note the house is closed to the public only on the Saturday so is open to the public for free the rest of the week , with arrival of tables and chairs Thursday , setting up/electrics on Friday daytime , wedding Saturday and clear up Sunday morning and we only have one wedding at a time !
Weddings can be on any SATURDAY in the year , please check availability above . Normal timescale would be from the Thursday or first thing Friday for arrival of hired equipment , Friday for setting up either by yourselves or one of the companies listed below ,Saturday wedding and Sunday morning clearing up ready for reopening to public at 10am
Please email to discuss details or come over for a free/ no obligation guided tour of our venue .A non-refundable deposit of £200 is required for a wedding booking ( no charge for changing date ) , the balance being due a month before ( less deposit of course but plus vat ) .
Price is for hire of empty building ,use of the tiny electric supply in cellar for fridge trailers ,the use of the various licenses and ceremony supervisor including pre wedding registra interview location . To this will need to be added the cost of hire of furniture ,catering ,lighting , decoration etc all of which are normally supplied by SDC Marquees , The Events Co , Coast and Country Marquees or Isle Of Wight Marquees . Even if you do not require a marquee you will still need the hire equipment from one of these companies or someone similar . Fireworks . Only Quieter type fireworks are permitted Please ensure the Parish Magazine is notified at least Six weeks before if fireworks are planned , they can be let off in the field just the other side of the railings on the front or side lawn of the house , please be aware it is illegal anywhere to set off fireworks after 11pm and as per English Heritage rules for the site , they are not allowed in the house grounds . Price .A non refundable deposit of £200 to reserve your date and the hire cost for Appuldurcombe House will depend on the size of the function
For 2026/7 £2000 plus vat for a wedding up to 70 Guests , £2500 plus vat for a wedding of between 70 and 100 Guests . For larger weddings with more than 100 guests £2900 plus vat . ( price based on Guest Numbers attending the ceremony and wedding breakfast , more guests allowed for evening without extra charge )
Please note we do not charge corkage, this price INCLUDES :-
Site hire, use of small electric supply overnight from the cellar for refrigerated trailers (recommended for secure overnight drink storage as well as food ) , premise /alcohol licenses , supervision and assistance during ceremony and setting up .
But does NOT INCLUDE :-
Marquee hire , catering , bar , tidying up or the removal of rubbish .
